Creative Philanthropy

The Carnegie UK Trust's support for the field of creative philanthropy within the UK and Ireland explores the role of philanthropy in contributing more effectively to social change.

The Trust's work in this area comes at a time when there is increasing government interest in the giving and spending of philanthropic funds. A new Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy has been established. At the same time, grant makers are expressing interest, via the Woburn Place Collaborative (WPC), in greater collaboration for effectiveness.

The Trust's support in and involvement in this field has three key aims:

  • To increase research into the effective use of philanthropic funds.
  • To increase awareness and engagement of philanthropic foundations in creative social change.
  • To enhance the research and development capacity of foundations and other grant makers.

The Trust has two main areas of work:

In addition to this, the Trust also supports the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy. In 2005, it hosted the medal in Scotland. To find out more about the Carnegie Medal.
